Making work that brings other artists’ visions to life.

When collaborations work, they feel like comfort and thrill at the same time. Whether I’m writing a theme song for your podcast or live scoring your masquerade ball, that’s how I want you to feel. (Also, the idea that Art is Pain is white supremacy and misogyny, but that’s a rant for another website.)

I’m easy to work with because I’m skilled, kind, clear about what’s possible, and invested in your vision. Commissions aren’t self-expression for me, they’re a puzzle to solve. I listen, ask good questions, and take great notes so I really understand what you’re looking for. When we’ve got a first draft, I’m not precious—I want your feedback. Together, we’ll make something that does what you need it to do.

  • "In my production work, I have hired Claire to sing more times than I can count. I've done so each time knowing two things for certain. First, she will fit seamlessly into any vocal role the project needs and immediately make it her own. Second, she will win the client over, in short order, with her preparation and professionalism, and of course, her charm. Her range is something I almost take for granted at this point, often calling her for a gig before I'm even sure where exactly we need her. Simply put, when Claire sings, it already sounds like a finished record.”

  • "Claire Wellin is an extraordinary music artist. She has an other-worldly talent for translating raw emotion into sound. The music she created for the play ACCIDENTALLY BRAVE, then the subsequent film, was a true work of art. Claire created a sonic landscape that was deeply transportive and reflected the inner territory of the narrative. She explores the places in the soul that ache and are simultaneously beautiful. Claire knows how to communicate a story in a way we can feel in our bodies. Her music takes people deeply inside of themselves and leaves them forever changed."

    Kristin Hanggi, Director

  • "Claire is a deeply talented and uniquely wide-ranging collaborator. She can sing extremely well across a broad range of genres, from indie to folk to classical to musical theater. In the space of a few weeks, I cast her in my opera, where she sang the role of a Siren: lots of straight tone New Music singing, plus moments of operatic belting with vibrato, and even a couple of commercial jingles with a 60s-style girl group sound; and then the next week I recorded the new San Fermin album with her, where she channeled Sheryl Crow in a studio setting. Her experience singing on Broadway gives her the ability to convincingly inhabit many roles, from lead singer of a band to a haunted babysitter in a musical, and her background playing the violin means she’s a sensitive musical collaborator in every setting. She’s a great sight reader but also an excellent improviser, and a mesmerizing performer. She’s my first call for every project and I hope I get to keep working with her forever.”

Ellis Ludwig-Leone - composer, songwriter for San Fermin

  • “Simply put, whenever I have collaborated with Claire, the music and entire experience have been better off for it. I feel very lucky to have had Claire lend not only her incredible vocal and violin talents to my music, but her enthusiasm, professionalism, reliability, sense of humor, and distinct musical voice. Claire brings that "je ne sais quoi" element to every project she's been a part of, generously giving all of herself to every performance, every rehearsal, every note. Working with her is a true joy.”

    Mackenzie Shivers, singer/songwriter and producer

  • “Claire is the most remarkable collaborator I have encountered. I have had the fortune of working with her more than anyone else, and the truth is that if I had my way Claire would appear on every song I touch. I have thrown such a variety of weird challenges at Claire over the last couple of years, and she has exceeded my expectations so thoroughly each time that I've ended up with something bigger and more beautiful than I ever imagined it could be. Claire is everything you would want out of a collaborator: talented, open, thoughtful, creative, passionate, humble, and, most importantly, joyful! (Oh, and she played the single most beautiful violin note I have ever heard. It melts my anxiety every time I listen to it.)”
